Key Fob Replacement for the Seat Ibiza
The fifth-generation Ibiza that has been revamped is a contender for the supermini segment. It competes with the Renault Clio, Peugeot 208 and Ford Fiesta.
Use a small screwdriver or a thumbnail (A) to break open the battery compartment cover of the key fob (B). Replace the CR2025 coin battery and ensure it is fitted in the correct direction and in the right polarity.
Dead Coin Battery
The most common reason for a key fob to not lock or unlock your vehicle is a dead coin battery. After it has died, you will see an increase in range, or no power. It is simple to replace with a brand new one (CR2025) from the local supermarket. You should be aware that using the wrong or non-compatible batteries could cause damage to your key fob. Make sure that the new battery has the same size, specification and voltage as the older one.
If your device was exposed to clean water such as rain or soapy tap water, it is likely that the chip inside has been damaged by corrosion. You might try cleaning your chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner to check if it works but it is more likely that the chip has been damaged and fried.
A new key fob is the simplest solution. Major car dealers sell key fobs and they can be installed by an experienced mechanic. They can also be purchased on ebay. The best thing to do is to work on a flat surface with excellent lighting. It is easier to work with small parts. It also allows you to avoid putting things in the wrong place. Always keep your key fob in a location that is secure and safe.
Water Damage
You may think your key fob is damaged if you drop it into the water or accidentally wash it. But there's still hope. The issue begins when the circuit board in the fob comes in contact with water - it creates a fantastic conductor and cuts off components. It also speeds up the process of corrosion and rust.
Luckily, this is a simple issue to fix. Find something absorbent to put inside the fob. seat car key fob programming or paper towel would work well. Then, use an alcohol-soaked cotton swab and a cotton swab isopropyl alcohol to clean the circuit board as well as other components to eliminate any battery acid residue or contamination. Allow the circuit board to air dry in a warm, dry environment for a few weeks.
Replace the battery when the fob has dried out by replacing it with a new one with the same size and the same polarity ('+' (pointing upwards). It is a challenge to open up the fob to reach the battery, but if you have a small screwdriver that is flat available, it should be able to slide into easily. After the fob is rebuilt, it should operate like a normal. If it doesn't, you might need to reprogramme it or replace the receiver module.
Radio Interference
When a keyfob is working correctly, it emits the radio frequency which is received by a receiver module inside your car. However, if the signal is disrupted in some way, your key fob won't perform as it should. This can be caused by objects such as weather conditions, objects, or other transmitters operating at the same frequency close to your car.
This can cause your key fob not to be able to trigger the vehicle's systems, such as the ignition switch, or the security system. It is best to replace the battery of your key fob.
Some LED lighting aftermarket that uses the same frequencies as key fobs for remote control could interfere with the signal, stopping it from reaching receiver modules. The LED lighting must be switched off or changed to a different frequency to prevent interference.

If the issue is still present after installing a new battery, the antenna on your key fob may be damaged or inoperable. The antenna is responsible for transmitting a signal between the key fob and the receiver module. The OBDII scanner is able to assist in diagnosing the problem by telling you what is wrong with the system. The scanner will request details about your particular vehicle including the model and make, engine type, and VIN number.
Faulty Receiver Module
The key fob contains a receiver module that transmits the signals to lock and unlock. If the receiver module is damaged, all of the on-board electronics will cease to function. Reprogramming the key fob using an OBDII scan, or replacing it might help.
This issue can be caused by a dead battery in the coin-cell, water damage or signal interference. You can reset your on-board computer if you disconnect the 12 Volt batteries for 15 minutes. This will eliminate any remaining electricity that could be causing issues. The cable should be removed first from the negative terminal, then the positive terminal. After 15 minutes, reconnect the battery in reverse order: positive first, negative second.
The internal chip of the key fob can also be damaged by water or dirt. If your key fob stopped working after getting wet, clean it with isopropyl or electronics cleaner. Then reinstall the battery. If it stopped working after exposure to soapy or salty water the chip could be fried and will need to be replaced.
Another possibility is a defective antenna module fuse, which transmits the signal to lock or unlock to the vehicle. The fuse can be found in a variety of locations, based on the model. For instance it could be beneath the rear seat or trunk, or the side of the dashboard.
